Control, Conflict, & Judgment

Episode 4

In case you missed it, I’ll be re-releasing podcast episodes from when my husband, Brad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. You can read more about it here.

Note from Dana: This episode was a hard one to share. Listening to it again, I cringe at how little I understood. How desperate I was to believe the outcome would be different. There are so many things I wish I could go back and do differently, and the argument referenced in this episode is one of them.

Episode Summary

“Small fears have become big. Small fears have become real.”

As the stress of the diagnosis intensifies, over two conversations, Dave, Brad, and Dana reflect on a conflict they have had regarding Brad’s upcoming treatment decisions. This segment covers the control issues we all struggle with when dealing with cancer and the people we love.

In the second segment, Jeremy joins the fray, genuinely unable to even fathom that the fight is between the people closest to Brad. Together, the group covers issues of judgment, fear, and what systemic vs. micro-decisions we can and can’t control moving forward as we all try to maximize Brad’s treatment path.
